Sadly, with the recent passing of Doug Burris, Coconut Grove’s infamous musician, party host, and the iconic leader of Miami Beach High School’s Rock Ensemble for over 40 years, came the inevitable sale of his house. ‘La Ponderosa’ as it was affectionately called by many was not only home to Doug but home to generations of students, friends, and family who ADORED him (read the Miami Herald’s story about Carter Douglas Burris!).
It was one of my greatest privileges to know this phenomenal human being, who had a million dollar smile. Shortly before Doug’s death from complications of a life with Multiple Sclerosis he published his autobiography, “Walk & Roll,” which I recommend everyone read! His story is nothing short of inspirational.
